So just a bit ago I got an email from TwitterMoms blogging program sending a call out for blog posts about”protecting your family from the flu this season.’ When I seen that title I got really excited to have this opportunity to spread the word about keeping yourself and family healthy, naturally of course. THEN… I read on! The email continues to explain that you have to include in your post how getting the flu vaccine is the best way to prevent the flu! As a matter of fact I will quote- “The main point we want to get across is the flu vaccine is best way to protect yourself from the flu.” Wow, if this didn’t activate me I don’t know… I mainly found myself on irritations side because so many people jump at the chance to write up these posts in order to win a $20 dollar gift card! I viewed some of these blogs and just as I suspected, I have not seen anyone with factual information about the flu shot. Sure there are other great tips on keeping your family healthy and that is great but having the false statements that the best prevention is through a flu vaccine just devalues the whole post.*Sigh* Letting this one go now….So here goes my 3 ways to prevent the flu this season, naturally.

    1. Eat lots of whole foods, including lots of greens and veggies. A green powdered supplement is a great way to keep your immune system running strong. How bout a morning smoothie and a shot of wheat grass?

    2. Keep your body full of bacteria! GOOD bacteria, you know, the kind that is essential in fighting off the bad bacteria. How you ask? A daily cup of Kefir from RAW milk, Raw yogurt is great too but Kefir is the bomb! 😉 Yes, this means you have to make it yourself but no worries it only takes about 5 min a day and the benefits are invaluable! Forget the store bought stuff it is pretty much dead after pasteurization. Kombucha is another great one if you want variety.

    3. Of course the most obvious is keeping your hands clean. I wont go into detail about his one, I am confident my readers got this one down 😉

Its pretty simple isn’t it? Sometimes we are going to get sick and that is okay, its also about how quickly and easily you process it out. Remember we are human and their are a lot factors that affect our immune system such as stress, environment, etc. Your in control! Be the captain of your own ship!

    Conscious Birthing

I know its been a while since I have put anything on this blog, all for good reason though. Time sure does seem to fly when your super busy. A lot of times when we find ourselves extremely busy and asking how did a year go by? During this time we may have not been too much in the moment, most times we have been living in our heads. Not fully conscious when we think we are or maybe you’re the one who knows you’re in your head 24/7 but just chooses to stay there. I will save this for another time… Just something to think about 😉

I birthed my son Cian (Key-in) last November and have been adjusting my lifestyle to 3 children all age 3 and under ever since! My son’s birth was AMAZING! I was fully conscious when he was born, no drugs, no interventions, no pain, some moments of discomfort and thoughts of will this human ever exit my body but nothing I ever for a moment thought I couldn’t handle. My family was there and a dear friend of mine video taping the beautiful moment we all found ourselves in. Life was emerging upon us. The extraordinary process that we are all blessed with here on Earth was happening in the comfort and love of my own home. Birth is something I will always be in ‘awe’ about, something that will always give me chills and keep me appreciating life. I know why midwives choose the profession they are in and why so many are being called to help our mothers and fathers birth from a conscious place. Imagine the connection you have with your child right from the start. What kind of message do you think your unborn baby is getting when your welcoming him or her from a conscious place of being? Do you think this sends a message to them that this world is a happy place and that they are wanted and welcome here? Of course it does. This is just one of the amazing benefits of choosing such an honorable way to birth your baby.

For more information on birthing you baby naturally, I will see you here!

Fresh And Easy Lovers & The Enemy: Lunchables

Whelunchablen Fresh and Easy first showed up on our street corners I really enjoyed the experience of shopping there. It was small, simple, easy and full of mostly decent food. Of course, I always read labels no matter where I am shopping even if it is Whole Foods. A lot of products are now taking a new marketing approach by making their products look healthy by fancy labels that say “Fat Free” or “Sugar Free” and most times these products are worse for us! You gotta be smarter than the marketers and go with always reading the label and never putting your full trust in what some package says. Recently I have noticed Fresh and Easy including new products on their shelves, some of which I wouldn’t touch if it was the last thing to eat on earth….I would eat dirt before putting some of these products into my body. The ones that stuck in my mind most is “Lunchables” and “Buddings” Lunch Meat! Yuck! It should be illegal to even call these products meat, let alone call it food! If your reading this I hope that you do not feed your children “Lunchables” or even that Buddings garbage and if you do, I sincerely hope that this sheds some awareness on what it is your feeding them.

Lets go ahead and look at the convenient little lunch package that requires no time to prepare. Wow, no wonder so many parents are sold on this stuff, all you have to do is grab it out of the fridge and walla, instant lunch! Your kids can make their own fun little handy cracker sandwiches all while sipping on there High Fructose Corn Syrup laden juice drink! This alone will give them enough of a hyper-sugar boost to lose focus at school and possibly be misdiagnosed with ADHD. Lets talk about the so called “meat” and “cheese” that is in this pack of not-so-wholesome “lunch”. Lets see, we have “meat” that our innocent children are eating which is loaded with Sodium Nitrite. Sodium Nitrite (E250) is a naturally occurring mineral used as a preservative in meat products against bacteria that cause botulism. Unfortunately it’s a precursor of CARCINOGENIC nitrosamines, which are especially reactive in young children. The preservative prevents growth of bacteria, but studies have linked eating it to various types of cancer. “This would be at the top of my list of additives to cut from my diet,” says Christine Gerbstadt, M.D., M.P.H., R.D., L.D.N., a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. “Under certain high-temperature cooking conditions such as grilling, it transforms into a reactive compound that has been shown to promote cancer.” Seriously have you tasted that “meat”? The “cheese” is not real either, it is a “Pasteurized Prepared Cheddar Cheese Product” the cheddar product contains less than 51% cheese! You can also find more High Fructose Corn Syrup in the delightful little crackers too! Not to mention the Partially Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil and for those of you who don’t know what that really means this is where the trans fat comes from! It is so much more than it just being “fat” this stuff is what is causing so many Americans to have heart attacks among other things! That was just a few of the nasty ingredients contained in your childrens “Lunchables”. Sodium Nitrite is also found in ham, hot dogs(beef or turkey), pizza with pepperoni and other processed meats so be on the look out and read your labels.

My point here today is to stress the importance of reading labels no matter where your shopping and always double check the labels that claim to be healthier. If you can’t pronounce it you probably shouldn’t eat it or use it on your skin for that matter. If your sad to see Fresh and Easy carry these low of all lows in healthy and in freshness items, send them a comment by clicking here and tell them you don’t like seeing this yucky stuff in their stores and that you are seriously disappointed…if you don’t care about it that much you can always just do it for me 😉 On a serious note though we can all make a difference when we all voice our opinions! If nothing is said then before we know it Fresh and Easy will be stocking more and more of these death foods on there shelves and I don’t know about you but I prefer an easier shopping trip where the majority of the food is healthy otherwise I would just go to Walmart.

Lunchables are disgusting! I feel so bad for the kids who have to live on them. The worst part is that most parents just don’t know they’re doing something unhealthy for their kids. I think things are starting to change, though. Soon people will realize we have to stop eating cardboard if we want to feel good. 🙂 Thanks for the post!

Do You Know Everything About Coconut Oil?

I always knew coconut oil was goodHealing With Coconut Oil for your skin that is why I used it on my skin during all of my pregnancies! Coincidence that I never got a stretch mark? Maybe, maybe not but I will tell you one thing my skin feels oh so soft after using coconut oil! Coconut oil has so many other uses that I wasn’t even totally aware of until recently. It is truly amazing the wonderful things you can do with it externally and internally *wink wink*. Seriously though did you know that modern medical science is now confirming the use of coconut in treating of over 30 conditions and Published studies in medical journals show that coconut, in one form or another, may provide a wide range of health benefits? Eating coconut oil is yummy in itself! You can use it to make a yummy home maid Hawaiian salad dressing, take a few spoonfuls a day for great looking skin and all the while preventing or getting rid of  many sicknesses. Switch your cooking oils out with this if your using basic canola or vegetable oils! Why wouldn’t you? Those oils are a serious detriment to your health! Most people do not even have a clue how rancid those oils are and the health problems they are creating currently or setting up for you in the future. I wont even go into how fattening they are because if you keep eating those oils being fat is going to be the least of your worries. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! Do your self a favor and check out more on healing with coconut oil.

    Stop poisoning your children

Do you know what goes into your child’s tiny body at every meal? Are you a parent that reads every label when you go shopping in order to insure you and your family gets not only proper nutrition but isn’t consuming chemicals and poisons that are detrimental to your health? If you are then great, keep up the good work! I know it is a hassle at first but its all about getting into a good habit. We have lots of bad habits and it takes a bit of discipline and consciousness to create a good habit but isn’t it worth it?

Lets talk about over the counter medicines for a moment. Parents are all to quick to jump at the opportunity to give their child Tylenol when they are sick. Not to mention the parents who give their kids Tylenol to put them to sleep! This is pure craziness! Do you question whether it is actually safe for your child or do you simply just trust it because it is doctor recommended and you can by it at your local drug store? If you knew what was actually in these and the potential harm that can be done you wouldn’t step a foot toward it. Should we be placing our childrens lives in the hands of so many others or is it time to take the initiative as parents and really find out what is safe for our kids and even for ourselves for that matter. Sorry to be so blunt and even sound insensitive but we really need to wake up here and get our big parent pants on!

Want to start a new good habit? Here is a place to start! The next time you or your child gets sick try reducing symptoms and healing whatever is going on with  Vitamin C saturation. Are you aware of the healing properties that Vitamin C really has? Did you know that whether you have a case of the common cold, strep throat or skin rash, Vitamin C (at  the right dose) can get rid of it pretty fast and ease symptoms in the process. Why not try something that is actually beneficial to your health and will build the immune system and let it do what it was meant to do? To learn more about Vitamin C saturation check out Healing With Vitamin C.

    Are You Living Consciously?

We are at a time in our lives where we can no longer hide from ourselves. We are all at choice on whether or not we want to live consciously or unconsciously. It may seem as though living an unconscious life is the easier road and maybe at times in is, but in the long run do you really think this is the case? Easy to just ignore our problems and cover them up with over eating, drinking ourselves under the table or what ever your creative more subtle way is. No matter who you are, what gender, race or social status you will sooner or later come face to face with yourself. Where are you at in your life? Are you fully awake or are you sound asleep in your daily life?
